    1. This is a perfect book for fans of the new tv series Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Or for those who before  never ever really cared about Sherlock Holmes, or *gasp* never even heard about him. It's a fun book to read, a quick read, but for people that know quite a lot about Sherlock Holmes, that have for instance read some or all the books, seen the movies with Basil Rathbone or the excellent tv-series with Jeremy Brett (R.I.P my one and only true Sherlock) then this book will not rea [...]

    2. Not what I was hoping for.I received a free ARC via NetGalleyI wasn't really expecting this to be quite soquirky. Or quite so shortIt's like a quick guide? Which I guess it's fine, just not what I was expecting.Nor was I expecting it to be quite so pleased with Cumberbatch and Sherlock. Don't get me wrong, I love Sherlock, but it's not the best adaptation.

    3. Bring on the SherlockI eat up any Sherlock with wild abandon. I don't care which modern Sherlock it is. I know there are fangirls of one or another, but I want them all. They are all just so FUN.This book was a good intro to all things Sherlock. It was great for me because I have never read the original books or watched the "old" Sherlock movies. I don't know any trivia about him.As I read, I found that many of the shows reference the stories and minor characters in ways that went over my head. [...]

    4. The Elementary Sherlock Holmes is a small book of facts aimed at newer additions to the fandom. It gives brief summaries of the published books and the short stories within, and also has brief descriptions of the main characters. It also has lists of the more well-known adaptions for television, cinema and radio, but doesn't (I don't think) list the main written works that we live off these days, such as by Anthony Horowitz and Laurie R. King - it has a list of books similar to it itself, but no [...]

    5. READ THE ORIGINAL REVIEW ON MY BLOG: thebookaddictsblogI got this ebook from Netgalley in return of an honest review. Before I say anything else, I must admit that this book was not really what I was expecting. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed reading it, but I think that's because I am relatively new to this fandom. I reckon an 'old' fan of Sherlock Holmes would find this maybe a bit basic. They would definitely not enjoy it as much because this probably wouldn't reveal anything new for them [...]

    6. 2 STARS(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)."To a great mind, nothing is little’ Sherlock Holmes Sherlock Holmes has become such an iconic figure that he’s almost real. He’s on our TV screens, he’s in our films and, of course, the books are still as popular as ever. This fascinating little miscellany tells you everything you need to know about this enduringly popular figure, and lots of stuff you don’t! It contains the plots of all the novels, character d [...]

    7. The Elementary Sherlock Holmes is like a bound version of the charts and graphs that USA Today uses with a little Buzzfeed thrown into the mix. Is there a breakdown of the top three actors to play Holmes? CHECK Is there a synopsis of the short stories written by Doyle? CHECK Is there a timeline of the two detectives containing material pulled from Doyle’s work? CHECKOkay, parts of the book are useful as a shorthand version of real research. The content is arranged in a thoughtful manner and th [...]

    8. Edited down from a greater encyclopedia, this book gives us some of the essentials – brief blurb-style summaries of all the stories, a tad about the major and surprisingly-minor-but-well-esteemed characters – along with some less interesting pages, such as lists of colonels in the stories, or websites for fans. Not bad as an all-ages-friendly introduction with some good trivia, it's not going to set the world alight, but does just enough to justify itself.

    9. This is a great guide to Holmes in all his forms. If his library at Baker Street had included a reference work on himself, this would have been it.
