    1. 3.5-4 stars!! Going into this read, I had no expectations whatsoever. But boy was it something great!!My first initial thoughts of this book before beginning it were, “is this s a forbidden romance of Stockholm syndrome?”. But no, it turned out not to be.No, it was a story of absolution and redemption and finding yourself.I liked how even through the harshest of situations and realities that both Juliet and “Half Face” were able to find a medium where they were able to bring out the best [...]

    2. I was given this eBook by the editor to read for review. I relish opportunities to read works by the not-quite-known authors and the not-yet-established authors. Even so, I was asked for an honest review and that is what I am here providing. This is a good story; a novella that is well written and well developed. It is a stand-alone story without a cliffhanger (thank goodness!!!). Even with a conclusion provided, the author has allowed for the possibility for a follow-up story. Black Face, White [...]

    3. Honestly,i was intrigued by the description and after a while i had the pleasure to read the book. It was something new for me,but i can say that i liked the idea.Well,i wasn't exactly happy about how a few scenes happened, but the story was good. This book was about a young woman whose life turns upside down when she's kidnapped by a man who claims that he's possesed by an evil spirit.Despite those crazy moments i wanted to know what will happen with Juliet and if what Half Face said about the ev [...]

    4. Half Face is precisely what I wanted - but didn't get - from Stolen: A Letter to My Captor. It's brutal yet ambiguous. A search for redemption in a beautiful but bleak setting. Incredibly thought provoking and well worth a look. I have but two criticisms. It needs a little proofreading (view spoiler)[*Chapter 1-3: The courtroom attendant appears to change gender. It could be intentionally a different person, but the woman we meet at first does say "I'll be here to escort you back."*Chapter 7: "h [...]

    5. This novella was a surprise and a treasure from the first page to the last. Author Mara Li has written a psychological suspense/romance/young adult story that will cause the reader to ponder what he or she would do in certain situations. The protagonist, Juliet Cunningham, is put into one bad situation after another by Half Face, the hardened criminal, including murder. However, by the time Mara Li brings the reader to the end of the plot, the reader may be rethinking everything that he or she h [...]

    6. I absolutely LOVED this book. It reeled me in and didn't let go before I finished it. Of course, there are lots of so-called 'hostage romances' out there, but this is not just a story of an abducted girl opening up to her captor - it's a story of redemption, personal demons, and humanity, all wrapped up in a narrative set on the wild steppes of Mongolia, complete with native rituals and a sprinkling of folklore that was never 'too much'. The relationship developing between Juliet and her captor [...]

    7. Black Face, White Face proves to be an addictive read: once you start, it's rather difficult to lay aside. Juliet may not be the world most psychologically wrought character, or the Half-Face the most complicated criminal mind in the history of literature - they are really rather gripping. The travel they make is unexpected, the people they meet prove interesting. And: you'll finish reading this story in one good evening or afternoon.

    8. Black Face, White Face is as much an internal journey as an external one. Half-Face sees Juliet as his savior, while Juliet shifts between anger at him and compassion. There’s a lot of push and pull in their relationship, naturally, but I found their relationship to be believable and fascinating. The pacing is perfect, which is impressive because it would have been easy for the traveling part of the narrative to drag. Li manages to work in enough drama, both internal and external, that this is [...]

    9. Many things can happen after an attack, and in Juliet's case, she gets nightmares. Now all she has to do is face the Half-Face guy. Which will end up bringing some twists and turns. Like whats the deal with this evil that Half -Face was going on about. Real or fake? Already I wasn't going to like that character. Half-Face guy was already giving me reasons not to like him, and doubt I'm gonna change my mind, unless something major happens to change that. This spirit made him do things and well wh [...]
