    1. When Brian first sent me a copy of Summer of Sharona well before it was printed, I knew it was going to to be good. Just a few weeks prior I finished reading his other book, Purple Ducks and really loved it. Purple Ducks was a non-fiction spiritual book. Summer of Sharona was a bit more of my preferred genre — young adult.I was blown away by Summer of Sharona. I couldn’t put it down. The beginning of the novel stole my heart as I saw a young Ashley struggle to cope with growing up, especially [...]

    2. Oh, 1979. The year of The Amityville Horror and the Tube Top. The year of I Will Survive and Three's Company. The year of Farrah Fawcett and the ubiquity of My Sharona, the latter being the soundtrack to Brian Humek's whimsical and enjoyable Summer of Sharona.Set in 1979, the verge of a new decade and the emergency of new culture and music, Summer of Sharona can perhaps be defined as a coming of age tale with the heart of a lion and the cultural references of the best reality show that ever exis [...]

    3. Summer Of Sharona started off so normally, I had absolutely no idea what was coming. The story was intense and at time I was deeply frightened for Ashley, the main character. However the story was a little predictable at times, but that didn't really affect the overall reading experience too much. This book does handle some heavier topics, such as abuse, rape, death and abortion, just warning you, however I really think they add depth to the story and make it more realistic. On the romantic note [...]

    4. Ashley was riding with her aunt when she first heard “My Sharona” on the radio. At the time, it was the only thing that brought a smile to her face after her drug-addict stepfather lost his temper yet again. Story had a rather slow beginning as the featured setting was at a White Sox baseball game at a time when people were turning against disco. Throughout the whole game, all you heard was “Dis-co Sucks!” But it seems that Ashley dreams of far-away places, to get away from her evil step [...]

    5. I loved this book. It kept me interested from start to finish. The characters were so well written, and the twists and turns in the story made it fabulous to the end. I look forward to reading more from Brian Humek.
