    1. This story took me a long time to get around to. My own mother died around the time I received the book and, honestly, I was afraid it would be a little close to home. In the end I decided: so what if it is close to home? Sometimes that’s the point of fiction – to make us feel things, even if those feelings are uncomfortable.Deirdre is the first-person narrator here, and she’s a bit of a ‘woodwork-dweller.’ After an internship that went all kinds of wrong, she’s working a job that me [...]

    2. How well do you really know your parents? That’s the core message that I took from Scar Jewelry and it’s one that is very powerfully delivered. Of course we all know some things about our parents, mainly in the here and now but how well do we know the past that led to them becoming the people they are, and we are, today?Twins Deirdre and Langston feel they know enough about their mother until she ends up in a coma and the two of them try to notify her friends and family. This causes them to t [...]

    3. This book is a far cry from the other Sue Perry book I have read( Frames 1: Nica). Its much more personal and focuses on choices we make that change the course of our history.Deidra and Langston, twins, Children of Heather and Nick, scarred by the loss of so many things. Reflecting their parents to no one but themselves. We enter the story, already in progress. Heather is in a coma due to a one car accident. Deidra is withdrawn into herself after the world has traumatised her. Langston, on full s [...]

    4. What would happen if you found out that someone you had known all your life (like your mother) really wasn’t who she always said she was? That is what happens to twins Deidre and Langston. Their mother has an accident and ends up in a coma. They start to delve into her past and discover she is someone they barely even knew, someone who. In covering up her past, she invented a whole new persona (someone she really wanted to be or thought was more suitable for motherhood?). As the story unfolds, [...]

    5. This review has been crossposted from my blog at The Cosy Dragon . Please head there for more in-depth reviews by me, which appear on a timely schedule.Deirdre and Langston get more than they bargained for when they begin to pry into their mother's life. Where has she been going every week? Why doesn't she seem to have any friends? What they discover could change their lives forever.I wanted something more concrete from the ending. Great, they'd found their family, but what about their mother? W [...]

    6. When their mother is left in a coma by an automobile accident, twins Deirdre and Langston begin to unravel mysteries of her life they didn't know needed to be unraveled.I started reading this book, not knowing what to expect. Was the mystery something along the lines of a big reveal, a la spy thrillers and such? Or was it something shocking and disturbing? (Can you tell I read a lot of genre fiction?)What I found here was much more subtle and, in the end, emotionally engaging. Deirdre, the first [...]

    7. Scar Jewelry by Sue Perry delves into the lives of twins Deirdre and Langston, whose mother falls into a coma after a car accident. The book follows their attempts to find any significant others in her life to inform of the accident, as she may not emerge from the coma. This proves to be an extremely difficult task due to their mother's introverted, solitaire lifestyle. However, as they dig into her life, they discover that she hid everything of her own and their father's pasts from them. The fir [...]

    8. In Scar Jewelry by Sue Perry, twins Deirdre and Langston who are very different in their personalities, set about to learn more about their mother who is in a coma. Their mother has done such a good job of covering up her past that they have no idea who she truly is or was . The way Heater/Heather has handled changing and hiding her identity is different in this book from anything I have ever read before. At first no-one wants to answer their questions, but eventually they do receive help from s [...]

    9. Copy from author for reviewDo you really know everything about your mother?Twins Deidre and Langston thought they knew everything there is to know about their mother until their mother was in an accident and is in a coma. Searching through their mother belongings and emails looking for other people that might want to know about their mother's condition, they find people and clues to a world they did not know existed. The lies she told him about their father and the people who knew their parents b [...]

    10. Loved this book. It certainly was an emotional read. Definitely was a page-turner. The theme of the book is something that a lot of people can relate to. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loves mystery/suspense or literary fiction.
